About me

I’m an assistant professor of journalism at Fairmont State University in West Virginia. I teach reporting, multimedia publishing, media literacy, social journalism and media history, as well as advising student publications. My research looks at in-house sports media and how that fits into our discussions about the changing definitions of journalism. I also study sports media more generally, political communication and social movements. These areas all have significant overlap as well. Before life in academia, I spent six years as a sportswriter at newspapers in New Mexico and California as well as one year in communication consulting.
